上一篇扯了一下现在的初一英语课本。这一篇扯一下语文 (江苏教育出版社、凤凰出版传媒集团)：

从头到尾随便翻了一遍，只有一课给我留下了印象。这一课有两篇文章，第一篇是蒲松龄的《狼》，最后两句：

禽兽之变诈几何哉？止增笑尔。

第二篇是毕淑敏的《母狼的智慧》，开篇第一句：

“仅次于人聪明的动物是狼。”

编者的意图很明显。在我的印象中，我从小到大用过的教材里，第一次编者有意把这种对同一事物作不同解读的文章放在一起的还是高中《论雷峰塔的倒掉》，课文后面附了《再论雷峰塔的倒掉》。

对了，为什么我会没事去翻初一的课本呢？因为某老师的小孩在上初一，周末和假期经常坐在我旁边的旁边的旁边的位置上做作业，有时候也就把课本、作业本之类留在这里没带回去。

Terminology

德国人 Rudolf Bayer 在 1972 年发明了一种数据结构，将它称为 “对称二叉 B-树” (symmetric binary B-tree)，这个名称相当无聊，尤其是当有一大堆名称类似的 “B+树” “B*-树” “B^x-树” 什么时，别人除非对它非常感兴趣，时间一长很容易忘记或者混淆。

1978 年，希腊人 Γκίμπας 和美国人 Sedgewick 给 “对称二叉 B-树” 改了一个名字：“红黑树” (red-black tree)。这个名字就比较抢眼了，大概还能让人联想到《红与黑》，容易给人留下印象。

当然，Bayer 本人也不是完全不知道怎样抓人眼球的，他虽然没用 “红黑树” 这个名字，但是从一开始就是用 “红” “黑” 两种颜色而不是用 0/1 来区分两种结点。这与物理学家让夸克有味道和颜色的做法简直如出一辙。

红黑树后来的应用很广泛* 了，不好说它的名字为它的应用作了多少贡献，我想大概还是加速了这个过程的。

* 例如：红黑树是 C++ STL 中 std::set 和 std::map 的标准实现。

空鸟笼

过去的两三个月，我把显示器竖着用，即逆时针旋转 90° 放在桌上；今天又把它横过来了，放回 “正常” 的角度。

其实这种 1680×1050 的宽屏显示器，对于做我这行的人来说，竖起来用大概比横着用爽得多。但是最近新人颇多，每个人从这里过都要向它多看一眼，问两句。

这个故事似乎和空鸟笼理论比较像：

一位心理学家曾和他的朋友乔打赌说：“如果给你买一个鸟笼，并且挂在你的房间里，那么你就一定会去买一只鸟。信不信？” 乔当然不信，于是，心理学家就真给乔买了一只漂亮的瑞士鸟笼，并挂在乔的家里。

结果呢？

每个到他家拜访的人都要问：“乔，你的鸟什么时候死了？”

乔立刻回答：“我从未有过一只鸟。”

“那么，你要一只鸟笼干吗？”

乔无法解释。

乔的心情因此变得很糟，为了不再让人询问，他干脆买了一只鸟装进鸟笼里。

心理学家后来说，去买一只鸟比解释为什么有一只空鸟笼要简单得多。因此可以得出这样的结论：如果给你一个鸟笼，并挂在你的房间里，那么，你就一定会买一只鸟。

胡言乱语

今天是 2010 年最后一天；明年是西元 2011 年，(北朝鲜)主体 100 年，还有那个啥 100 年。新年快乐！

这星期回了好几趟母校校园，见了一些人，听说了一些事。见的人好几位是一年半或者两年半没见过的，于是大家开始感叹时间过得真快。在本科同学那里被普及《老男孩》，发现能有共鸣时，觉得似乎是老了。

感慨完了、饭局完了，回到自己的地方，该干吗干吗去。

Tree Hugger

我为什么要发这个呢？因为今天有点事情不太舒服，想到这首歌第一段心情突然好多了。

到网上找到它的完整歌词，才发现之前一直听不懂的那一段原来是法语……

聞斯行諸？

子路問：「聞斯行諸？」子曰：「有父兄在，如之何其聞斯行之？」

冉有問：「聞斯行諸？」子曰：「聞斯行之！」

我和冉有一样老是优柔寡断误事（把自己和冉有并列会不会太张狂了点？先姑且这样吧），少有冲动误事，所以不要老是劝我 “三思而后行”。即便是去年那件别人看来属于冲动的事其实也是纠结了几个月才做的决定。我倒真是很希望我什么时候也能真的冲动一回。
